Ryan took these pictures of our home this morning for a Facebook photo album he called "Details." So I am stealing from him! Here are some of his pictures and words:
"I grew up around antiques since my dad was an antiques dealer, and over the years I've bought and sold many of them. To me they provide inspiration, tell stories, and give me a personal connection to days gone by."

This is what happens to your house when you are living with an antique lover whose father is a fine art and antique dealer (you also get better deals!). SO if you are into modern decor make sure you know what you are getting into. Me personally, before this man I slept on a mattress on the floor and still had posters on my wall for decor (still, I was quite content in my little hovel).

Ryan collects old books. By old I mean 15 -17th century. This "Guilliver's Travels" is new by his standards.
I hope you enjoyed this peek into my home!

Gosh, some very lovely items there, Grace!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ryan is pretty tickled with himself these days (he recently acquired this "new" furniture). We had to sell the lost lot of antiques when we both lost our jobs last year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Grace...can't wait to see everything!
ReplyDelete...time for another visit!
My birthday is fast approaching!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Do you know what the wood is in the cabinet in the second photo? I'm in love with the stair!. But I must say, the furniture would look lost without all those healthy, well-loved house plants to to put them in context. I really love furniture and woodwork like this that is quality enough to last forever and so classically beautiful that it can never go out of style or offend the eye.
ReplyDeleteBeing married to a cabinetmaker, all of our furniture and cabinets is built to last and be admired forever too, but it is all along the more simple zen west-coasty style (there must be a real word for it) that keeps with the style of our home, built with with wood that grows here (fir and cedar) with cherry accents. We too will soon have a wooden staircase and seeing your photo, I am now very excited about it.
Hi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet is bird's maple (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird's_eye_figure). If you like my tiger maple stairs, I will have to post a picture of the sort of spiral staircase. My kitchen is all wood too, so I'll post a picture of that too.
I know what you're talking about for the zen west coast style. I like it, but it doesn't feel as cozy. I like feeling cozy. I was going to say a few more woods, but Ryan's telling me we got to go into town for some reason!
