Sitting by the open window is a swell thing to do
When the rain comes in gushes
And wet leaves dance in the breeze
The song birds come out to play
While the grackles and crows seem to stay away
When you go out tomorrow you'll be amazed
My, how much a garden can grow in but a day!
(One of my one-minute poems: In other words, you write and edit what you can in 1 minute and then you have to leave it!)
I have
four six Mullein plants naturally growing in my gardens this year! I love this
medicinal plant (I think I say "love" a lot when talking about plants). Click the above link for folklore, uses, and recipes. I should probably go gather some leaves to dry for tea soon. I'll be away for a while so I may miss out on gathering the flowers for making the oil:( Oh well, the
evening primroses should be in full swing when I get back.

| Blueberries in the rain. |
I think I'll be quite busy when I return home. The early blueberries will likely be ready for picking when I get back. Early lettuces will have probably bolted and I have seedlings ready and waiting to replace the lettuce. I don't even want to talk about the weeds. I also have to hug the hubby a lot because we have never been apart for more than ten days before--I'll be away for 21 days. Going to Salt Spring, NS to visit a friend, then visitng another friend in Halifax (I hope to go to one of
Eco-yogini's Yoga in the Park events, too), then off to the Valley for a few days before heading out to Moncton, NB with my mother and older sister where we will
swing from trees and hike
Fundy National Park. I may blog a post or two while away, but I'm also not planning on bringing my laptop, so no promises--you'll just have to wait!
Great info on the mullein!! Boom & gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem Grace, have a happy holiday.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a poet in the family, Grace.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the blueberries in the rain...they are as lovely as any flower. Enjoy your time with friends...looking forward to our mommy daughter time together. Have you been practicing your Tarzan call?
Thanks for the comments. No I have not been practicing my Tarzan call. I will likely squeal though.
ReplyDeleteSaw lots of mullein and goldenrod in a 'wildlife' churchyard in a nearby village today (the 'God's Acre' project - churchyards gently and sensitively managed for the good of birds, beasts and flowers rather than being being strimmed into biodiversity extinction.)
ReplyDeleteLoved your mullein..one of my fav plants...such structure in the garden..wild or cultivated in it's form..
ReplyDeleteTrotted to your blog re your mom.
Heh..am off to SSI in a few weeks too! Was our home for awhile. Miss it a lot.
Those are both very beautiful photos. It's good that you say love a lot when talking about plants. George Washington Carver said plants will give their secrets to you if you love them enough! I think plants love to be loved.
ReplyDeleteSolitary Walker: Sounds like my kind of garden!
ReplyDeleteGardeningbren: Glad you found me:)Does SSI = salt springs island? As in BC? Wish that's where I was, but I was in Salt Spring Nova Scotia, probably not even on the map:)
Laurel: That is true, I'm learning lots more these days.
Sorry...missed that NS after Salt Spring (the one out west is Salt Spring Island..yes you are right...the one here in NS is Salt Springs...am I right...jumpins..must check...Yes...Salt SpringS. Anyway..no matter...I really like your blog. Thank you for following mine.
ReplyDeleteNow, I really have to experiment with your creamy herbed wild chickweed pasta...got that..and some!! Chickweed I mean )))
Dear Grace, Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love your 1 minute poem. Hope you are keeping a journel for long time savings. I'm now following you as I love seeing your photo's and hope to read more poems..have a great day,
